3 Wheeled Buggies

A 3 wheel tandem stroller-wheel buggy is used for off-road walks and for tackling terrain such as rough roads or woodland tracks. They are also more easy to manoeuvre up and down kerbs than 4-wheel models.

Stability

With four wheels and a central point of gravity that is balanced by the weight of your child in the seat, 4-wheel buggies are generally considered to be more stable than 3-wheelers. Three-wheel buggies are still worth considering since they can take on anything from rough terrain to busy streets.

Manoeuvrability

Three-wheeled buggies usually provide better maneuverability than four-wheeled pushchairs. They typically come with a swivelling front wheel which allows you to change direction quickly and steer with only one hand. Some models have wheels that lock to offer stability on rough terrain. Some models can even be used with a second seat or buggy board if you're looking to increase the size of your family.

If you intend to remove your three-wheeled buggies from the roads that are paved, you should choose an option that has pneumatic tyres. They can handle the most difficult terrain. These tyres may require pumping up occasionally but will be much more durable than tyres that are solid and are more likely to be puncture-proof. It is recommended to choose a model that has a swiveling front wheel that is locked to help you navigate tricky surfaces.

The fact that there is only one front wheel may also be a reason that three-wheelers tend to be bulkier than four-wheeled buggies when folded. Check to see if the model you're considering fits in the boot of your car and can be raised if required. Some models fold by one hand, and they stand up when collapsed. This will save space in the boot of your car.

A quality 3 wheel pushchair can cope with most terrain from busy streets to woodland tracks. However, it is important to consider the purpose you'll use it for in the daytime. If you'll be running the school run using it, it should be able handle steep slopes and kerbs. If you'll be jogging with it, check that it has an adjustable lockable swivelling'stretch' for the front wheel to ensure that the ride is safe.
