Albums

Toto's discography comprises 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The band has received multiple Grammy Awards.

Before Toto was formed, members of the band performed session work for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs' 1975 album Silk Degrees. The group's collaboration led to the formation of Toto in 1976.

Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for the lack of hit singles. In 1985, lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group and the group held auditions for a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the group recorded their 1986 album Fahrenheit.

Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to mark the 20th anniversary of the band. The band went through old tapes and recordings to create the special record. The album was well-loved by fans and Toto embarked on an extensive tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

Shem von Schröck took over Leland Sklar as the drummer during the tour for the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour and an interview with the band.

In 1983, the group released Toto IV, which earned an international praise. The band began a world-wide tour to support the album following its success. The tour was interrupted when Bobby Kimball, the lead vocalist, was arrested for drug charges. The band decided to let him leave at the end of the tour and hired singer/guitarist Joseph Williams in his place. Drummer David Hungate also left the band after the tour. Leland Sklar took over his place.

The TOTO Museum is an impressive futuristic building that has several exhibit rooms that are devoted to telling the story of the company and its most innovative product. The exhibits at the museum include toilets and faucets as well as tableware which have contributed to the growth of TOTO over the last half century. Toto has produced a number of music videos. The band has released a number of compilation videos and DVDs. The most popular video for the band is "Africa" which has more than one billion views on YouTube. The video is set in a library with the band performing atop a stack of African books.

The song "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. The song was written by members of the band and was produced by David Paich. It was a big hit in Europe and other countries.
