ADHD Medication in the UK

The drugs for ADHD reduce symptoms by increasing the activity of the brain in certain areas. They also increase neurotransmitters that are lacking in people with ADHD.

Stimulants

Due to its unique mechanism of action, atomoxetine isn't able to have the same negative side effects that other antidepressants do, such as Wellbutrin and Effexor. It is available to children as young 5 years old. It is administered once or twice a day in tablet form. Atomoxetine gives you a steady, 24-hour control of ADHD symptoms. It can reduce the severity of problems in the evening when stimulants have worn off.

Both guanfacine and clonidine are available as non-stimulant ADHD medication. These are given to children who haven't had a positive response to stimulant medication or have trouble with its side effects. They can be administered by themselves or in combination with stimulants, like Adderall XR (amphetamine salts), for a more effective treatment of ADHD.
